How to Choose Crystals and Stones | Which ones are right for you?
It seems that everyone has a growing Crystal collection. The Mineral Kingdom has so much to offer but there are SO many to choose from- how do you know which ones are right for you?
There are so many different ways to choose crystals. The good news is that there is no wrong way- just listen to your intuition and go with what feels right. If you want me to select for you, check out my 'intuitively chosen crystal set' by clicking here.
Here are a few common ways to choose:
Birthday
Using your birth date is a straightforward way to choose crystals and stones. You can go simply with the stone associated with your birth month. Something to note though- most 'birth stones' are gemstone quality which often means that they are more expensive. But just because you were born in January, doesn't mean you HAVE to buy a Garnet. There are actually several stones associated with each month and many are much more affordable. Here is a list of the months with their 'birth stones':
January (Garnet) July (Ruby)
February (Amethyst) August (Peridot)
March (Aquamarine) September (Sapphire)
April (Diamond) October (Opal)
May (Emerald) November (Topaz)
June (Pearl) December (Turquoise)
If you want to go more in depth, you could look for stones associated with your Astrological sign or even Element. You could get even more complex and pull your natal chart (complete astrological chart), and then select stones for each of your planets’ locations and more! Cafeastrology.com is my favorite place to view a natal chart quickly and accurately.
Metaphysical Associations
Another common way to search for stones is based on their metaphysical associations. Common associations people often look for include everything from cleansing and protection, to peace and abundance and more! Here are some popular associations and some crystals for each:
Abundance: Citrine, Pyrite, Clear Quartz
Acceptance: Aragonite, Rose Quartz, Turquoise
Anxiety: Labradorite, Lepidolite, Lithium Quartz
Business: Citrine, Pyrite, Smokey Quartz
Calming: Aquamarine, Calcite (Blue and Green), Rose Quartz
Centering: Black Kyanite, Smokey Quartz, Tiger’s Eye, Black Tourmaline
Change: Malachite, Jasper, Tiger’s Eye
Cleansing: Clear Quartz, Himalayan Pink Salt, Selenite, Amethyst
Clumsiness: Jasper, Aventurine
Creativity: Citrine, Orange Calcite, Pyrite, Tiger’s Eye
Decision Making: Citrine, Fluorite, Topaz
Determination: Red Jasper, Ruby
Detoxification: Calcite, Amethyst, Emerald, Turquoise
Dreams: Blue Kyanite, Lithium Phantom Quartz, Peacock Ore
You can create your own collection of stones based on their associations by combining several and programming them to work together toward a common goal (i.e. cleansing, detox, etc). If you want to take a leap ahead and skip the research and shopping around, there are complete sets available in my shop that are cleansed and charged for different purposes (shop crystal sets here).

Intuition
Sometimes when we are ready for a certain stone, it will grab our attention and ‘call’ out to us. This is a strong energy and should be respected in my opinion. When you feel that you need a piece of labradorite (for example), worry less about what that stone can do for you or why and just go for it. You may find later that, upon reading its associations, it is the perfect stone for you at that point in your life. Or it may be that you are meant to deliver the stone to someone else (loved one, friend, etc).
The Takeaway
Try not to focus on possibly choosing the ‘wrong’ stone. I don’t think there is such a thing. You never know where the path of Crystals and Stones may lead but if you follow your inner voice, chances are you won’t be disappointed.
