The material, examined

What the name tells you

A photograph can show branching, clouds and filaments without resolving their chemistry. GIA has also documented manufactured moss-like inclusions in assembled quartz: a plant-like appearance is not a guarantee of natural formation.

A useful question at the counter

Are the inclusions enclosed naturally, or does close examination reveal a join, coating or filled fracture?

A note for your collection

Use a soft cloth and gentle cleaning. Photograph thin edges and backlit areas before deciding where an old slab belongs.

Sources & further reading

References are labeled by role. A source documenting a belief is not evidence of a medical or mineralogical effect. Reflection prompts are C&C editorial suggestions.
