The material, examined

What the name tells you

A slab can reveal growth bands, cavities and inclusions that a small tumble hides. Compare the whole structure before chasing a name. A resemblance to an Oregon reference is a comparison, not proof that the stone came from Oregon.

A useful question at the counter

What supports the locality: a purchase record, an original collector label, or just a similar photograph?

A note for your collection

Avoid prolonged soaking or solvents when treatment is unknown. Store slices so their edges cannot rub against one another.

Sources & further reading

References are labeled by role. A source documenting a belief is not evidence of a medical or mineralogical effect. Reflection prompts are C&C editorial suggestions.
