The material, examined

What the name tells you

Lizardite, antigorite and chrysotile belong to the serpentine group but differ in structure and habit. Do not assume that all serpentine is fibrous—or that a group label resolves cutting safety.

A useful question at the counter

Has the specific material been identified, particularly if it will be cut rather than simply displayed?

A note for your collection

Some serpentine-group material is fibrous. Do not dry-cut or grind unidentified material; finished-object care and dust exposure are different questions.

Sources & further reading

References are labeled by role. A source documenting a belief is not evidence of a medical or mineralogical effect. Reflection prompts are C&C editorial suggestions.
