01 · The material

Natural History

Jadeite jade and nephrite are interlocking mineral aggregates. Some classification systems also encompass particular related pyroxene material.

02 · Observe

Under the Loupe

Aventurine, serpentine, glass and treated stones can resemble jade. Color, coldness and a photograph cannot settle all those possibilities.

03 · Ownership

Collect & Care

Treatments can change care. Avoid strong chemicals, heat, steam and ultrasonic cleaning when the treatment history is unknown.

04 · The human story

History, Lore & Tradition

Documented history

Jade has specific cultural histories, not one universal “ancient meaning.” This identity record does not assign all jade objects the same tradition.

Sources & further reading

References are labeled by role. A source documenting a belief is not evidence of a medical or mineralogical effect. Reflection prompts are C&C editorial suggestions.
