The material, examined

What the name tells you

GIA discusses jadeite, nephrite and some green omphacite. Fei cui terminology can be broader still. That is why this record leaves a single formula blank: the term does not name one species.

A useful question at the counter

Which jade material, what treatment, and what evidence? A valuable object deserves more than a seller’s color name.

A note for your collection

Treatments can change care. Avoid strong chemicals, heat, steam and ultrasonic cleaning when the treatment history is unknown.

Sources & further reading

References are labeled by role. A source documenting a belief is not evidence of a medical or mineralogical effect. Reflection prompts are C&C editorial suggestions.
