01 · The material

Natural History

Fine internal feldspar layers scatter light to produce the glow. Several feldspars can show this effect.

02 · Observe

Under the Loupe

“Rainbow moonstone” is commonly a labradorite trade name. A blue flash and a white body do not make every specimen orthoclase.

03 · Ownership

Collect & Care

Protect against knocks and sudden heat. Cleavage matters even when a stone has a respectable hardness.

04 · The human story

History, Lore & Tradition

Documented history

Moonstone names follow the visual effect as well as mineral identity. That is why the trade and a mineral catalog may label the same piece differently.

Meanings & modern crystal practice

These associations belong to spiritual traditions and personal symbolism, distinct from mineralogical facts.

C&C’s original practice notes associate this material with transitions and wisdom. You might use its shifting glow as a prompt to notice what is changing in your own life. These are contemporary spiritual associations and editorial reflection suggestions, distinct from mineralogical properties.

Sources & further reading

References are labeled by role. A source documenting a belief is not evidence of a medical or mineralogical effect. Reflection prompts are C&C editorial suggestions.
