The material, examined

What the name tells you

Pyrope, almandine, spessartine, grossular and andradite are among the important gem members. Species and mixtures explain why a single formula would mislead on this family-level record.

A useful question at the counter

Is the label a trade variety, a species or a mixture? For a valuable gem, request a suitable identification report.

A note for your collection

Protect crystals and settings from knocks. Ask about treatment and any filled fractures before mechanical cleaning.

Sources & further reading

References are labeled by role. A source documenting a belief is not evidence of a medical or mineralogical effect. Reflection prompts are C&C editorial suggestions.
