The material, examined

What the name tells you

A species-level record gives you the family tree. For a specific gem, follow the variety record: an emerald and a clean aquamarine can need quite different ownership decisions.

A useful question at the counter

What is the variety, and what is known about treatment? “Beryl” is only the beginning of the label.

A note for your collection

Treat fractures and inclusions as individual care issues. Do not dry-grind beryllium-bearing minerals without specialist controls.

Sources & further reading

References are labeled by role. A source documenting a belief is not evidence of a medical or mineralogical effect. Reflection prompts are C&C editorial suggestions.
