The material, examined
What the name tells you
GIA has examined polymer-impregnated aventurine quartz sold as “ice jade.” The quartz was real; the jade identification was not. Authenticity is not a single yes-or-no question: identity and treatment each need an answer.
A useful question at the counter
Is this quartz, glass or a feldspar? Is there impregnation? Ask before paying for a jade claim.
A note for your collection
Treat it as an aggregate: softer inclusions, fractures and treatments can matter more than the quartz hardness number.
