The material, examined

What the name tells you

Fluorapatite, hydroxylapatite and chlorapatite differ in their chemistry. A specimen sold simply as apatite may need analysis before a precise species label is justified.

A useful question at the counter

Was a species established, or only the apatite group? Record the level of identification you actually have.

A note for your collection

Avoid abrasion, knocks and harsh cleaning. Keep valuable pieces apart from harder stones.

Sources & further reading

References are labeled by role. A source documenting a belief is not evidence of a medical or mineralogical effect. Reflection prompts are C&C editorial suggestions.
