What it is

Agate / opal-bearing volcanic thunderegg; source-labelled bed

What to look for

Collector examples include moss, joined multiple eggs and an opal-described core. “Red Bed” is a locality/bed label; it is not evidence that every interior is red.

At the cutting bench

Joined eggs and internal cavities can affect sawing orientation and usable area. Examine host, core, fractures and polish response per piece.

Under the loupe

Blue, South Blue, Moss and other beds overlap visually. Maintain bed labels and do not classify an inherited red slab by the word “Red” alone. Verified representative red color coverage remains missing.

Source & collecting access

Prior ranch review documents closed public digging and offered ranch-dug material; Red-specific present extraction quantities/access UNKNOWN.

Color comparison tags

UNKNOWN — reliable color coverage not yet established. Bed names are not color observations.

Geology & evidence limits

Independent bed-specific geology UNKNOWN. Collector descriptions of opal need mineral verification; no assumption of precious play-of-color or a uniform filling composition.

Collecting & trade history

The collector treats Red as an established Priday/Richardson named bed; historic specimen labels are still needed for individual attribution.

Reading old-stock material

Preserve original labels, receipts, packaging and associated pieces. Old-stock age does not authenticate a locality or justify a rarity premium.

How to read the color tags

Unassigned pending actual representative-image review. Bed/name wording is not a color observation.

Still unresolved

Rights-cleared representative examples and verified color tags; Independent host/bed map; Filling mineral identity; Bed-specific market evidence

What we know—and what we don’t

Visual resemblance is a comparison clue, not proof of material identity, locality or documented provenance. Keep source labels and estate records separate from your visual assessment.

C&C Reference Collection

Reference photograph pending. Do not substitute an unlicensed dealer image or a similar-looking specimen of uncertain identity.
