The material, examined

What the name tells you

The idealized formula is a starting point; natural specimens can include substitutions and associated minerals. A polished pink-and-black rock may need several names to describe what is present.

A useful question at the counter

Is the pink material rhodonite or another mineral? Keep the seller’s name separate from a tested identification.

A note for your collection

Protect cleavable crystals and polished edges from knocks. Avoid harsh chemical cleaning of an unknown mixed piece.

Sources & further reading

References are labeled by role. A source documenting a belief is not evidence of a medical or mineralogical effect. Reflection prompts are C&C editorial suggestions.
