The material, examined

What the name tells you

A compact mass may hide the crystal clues that a loose crystal offers. When shape has been polished away, measured properties and documentation become more useful.

A useful question at the counter

Is the identity established independently of color and veins? Keep an uncertain label provisional.

A note for your collection

Avoid acids and abrasive cleaning. Treat dyed or otherwise modified material according to its disclosed treatment.

Sources & further reading

References are labeled by role. A source documenting a belief is not evidence of a medical or mineralogical effect. Reflection prompts are C&C editorial suggestions.
