Silica-rich material / a broad lapidary name
A closer look beyond the specimen label.

The material, examined
What the name tells you
Jasper and agate are not divided by a universally sharp border. Transparency, texture and inclusions help describe a sample; they do not turn every commercial name into a distinct mineral. The source of a named picture jasper needs its own evidence.
A useful question at the counter
Does the supplier know the composition and locality, or only the commercial name? Photograph and retain the original label.
A note for your collection
Identify an unfamiliar named material before applying quartz care advice. Avoid acid tests on a finished piece.

References are labeled by role. A source documenting a belief is not evidence of a medical or mineralogical effect. Reflection prompts are C&C editorial suggestions.
