The material, examined

What the name tells you

Small tumbles can hide the pattern that gave the material its name. If the bands are absent or ambiguous, keep the identification provisional. Scarcity stories and mine-closure claims require evidence beyond appearance.

A useful question at the counter

Can the seller document the source and treatment status? A pale blue color is insufficient for either claim.

A note for your collection

Use gentle cleaning. Avoid strong chemicals and do not soak an unknown treated or mounted piece.

Sources & further reading

References are labeled by role. A source documenting a belief is not evidence of a medical or mineralogical effect. Reflection prompts are C&C editorial suggestions.
