The material, examined

What the name tells you

Bloodstone sits near the naming boundary between jasper and chalcedony. The practical description—dark green, red-marked, usually opaque—is more helpful than insisting that all trade labels follow one strict vocabulary.

A useful question at the counter

Is the label describing heliotrope specifically, or any red-and-green decorative rock?

A note for your collection

Protect engravings and polished edges. Avoid chemical tests on a finished stone; take an uncertain identity to a qualified examiner.

Sources & further reading

References are labeled by role. A source documenting a belief is not evidence of a medical or mineralogical effect. Reflection prompts are C&C editorial suggestions.
